Visual XML App Reviews

I saw someone write the same tool in 2003 for a completely different protocol and data structure (I think it was based on UDP). And it’s great to see the tradition continue. However, there’s a file extension and specification problem: I ran into a problem where it doesn’t open .xml XML files. Why not?

Totaly awesome! A simple and yet totally useful tool, just like its sible VisualJSON. Thank you.

OK, it can load and format XML, that’s great… But no syntax highlight and the app cannot open XML files, really? :/

You cant open files with a .xml extension using the "File->Open" menu option. I dont have a clue what extension its looking for, but .xml would seem an obvious one for an XML editor. You have to either type the name in the address bar or drag and drop the file from the finder. It formats the XML in a downright strange way. It inserts newlines before and after the content of elements, obscuring whether there really are newlines or not. And it makes it hard to read. The "File->Open Recent" menu option is always empty, and does not list the files Ive opened recently. The app isnt very fancy, and I could probably hack out one better than this in a day of work. I would expect more from a paid app.

Never was able to open an xml file. I tested with my iTunes library file and the app reported that the file was corrupted. In addition to what Steve 3000 noted, clicking on the support button within the app takes you to a JSON support page. Initial content prompt says "To test raw json string", which is an entirely different format from XML. Feels like the author has confused a couple of his applications? The "Visual XML Support" link on this review page takes you to a developer page, but there is no mention of VisualXML app there. Suspect that this app was not tested very well prior to uploading.

Doesn’t work and no instructions.

Slow, doesn’t seem to work properly at all for XML files.

I downloaded this app so that I could open XML files in XML format. This application does not recognize any XML files on my computer, it’s been a waste of my time.

I should have looked at the reviews first! I have an XML that I want to open/parse. It *seemed* like this should do it. Unfortunately, I cannot use this app to open a .xml file. It looks like it only parses website pages. I did not do a lot of looking into it when I discoverd it does not do what I need it to do.
